Position Information:
UCR's division of University Advancement
(UA) builds deep, lasting relationships to advance the campus and generate financial resources for high campus priorities. On the verge of
the first comprehensive fundraising campaign, the organization is focused on recruiting and retaining the very best individuals to work in
our diverse units (Development, Alumni Relations, Strategic Communications, Advancement Services). Reporting to the Associate Vice
Chancellor for Administration, the Human Resources Manager, University Advancement, functions as the primary HR professional for UA. In this
capacity, the incumbent provides leadership in developing/implementing strategies to attract, develop, and retain a diverse and highly
competent workforce. Talent management skills will enable the incumbent to handle recruitment, targeted advertising, selection, on-boarding,
training, outreach, and performance management. Position develops communication methods to ensure management and staff across the
organization are properly trained and oriented to human resource practices, processes, and procedures. Analyzes, formulates, and recommends
personnel actions to the AVC.
Minimum Requirements:
The successful candidate will come to us with the following
experiences, skills, and abilities....which will hopefully grow and develop over time:
- Bachelor's degree with major in business administration, educational administration, or related field and five years of experience in personnel analysis or administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current principles and practices of human resource management and human resources experience in recruitment, employment, job evaluation, compensation, training, talent management and state and federal labor laws and regulations.
- Demonstrated progressively responsible skill and experience in analyzing/interpreting policy and procedural issues, forming recommendations and proposals, consulting with management and guiding HR -related decisions, developing HR-related business processes, and developing tools to enhance communication.
- Experience in interpreting and applying a variety of complex policies in a number of areas and have the ability to foresee problem areas and recommend workable solutions.
- Operating knowledge of on-line information systems and financial systems. Experience in accessing and extracting data and information from databases and information systems using PC-based front-end tools.
- Demonstrated data gathering experience and analytical skills to evaluate needs, determine approaches to resolving those needs, evaluate impacts of various solutions, ability to provide short and long term planning models, and make recommendations.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels within the University and develop informal, cooperative relationships among diverse multifunctional departments. High level interpersonal skills to interact with management level individuals throughout the organization and the campus.
- Advanced expertise using computer software such as Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word in a Windows environment.
- Skill in prioritizing, planning and organizing assignments, working efficiently under tight schedules, and completing tasks in a timely and accurate manner with minimal direction and maintaining flexibility to address changing priorities.
- Demonstrated experience/ability to present information orally and in writing in a logical manner with appropriate supporting documentation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in business and financial matters and auditing.
Other qualities that would certainly benefit the candidate:
- Master's degree and/or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
- Experience with UC enterprise systems such as Payroll/Personnel System (PPS), UCRFS, PeopleSoft, or other on-line personnel/financial programs.
- Previous experience in higher education setting, with an understanding of and appreciation for advancement and philanthropy.
- Ability to speak in large or small groups effectively.
- Knowledge of UC Personnel policies and bargaining contracts as it relates to personnel actions and decisions.
